Everyone: great job today! I think the games went very well and the entire cast had alot of fun. I saw some directors step up to the spot of being in charge and using their "authority." It is difficult situation to get used to, but I have faith in you all.
Remember, it would be great/grand/wonderful to send your cast a reminder email over the break to check up on them. Remind them to review their srcipts, lines, and blocking.
I hope everyone enjoys their break.

I must give a hearty round of applause for my partner. Tessie, you did a really good job stepping up to the plate today. I give Mafia 5 stars. Today was really great guys!
ReplyDeletei think mafia was really good and everyone had a fun time with it, definitely something to repeat in the future when it goes easier because people get it. good job tess for organizing everything. i think we all did well today with just overseeing everything
ReplyDeleteI had a blast directing today. I wish I was taping us trying to get through the scene with Tom, Dillon, and Charlie today, it was priceless. Honestly, with the lack of blocking in my play and considering people are doing a great job of getting their lines down, our biggest obstacle is getting people not to crack up during a scene.
ReplyDeletebest game ever (DARBY YOU DOG!!!) i think when we go in the hall we should as directors all not be chomping at the bit to leave, because then it makes the actors feel like they should be leaving too. also....i feel like some actors are still not taking us seriously as "authority figures". several times today we told an actor to do (or stop doing) something and they acted like we were joking. i dont know...just an observation.
ReplyDeletei'm so glad that Colleen said what i was going to say because i always feel like i'm the downer. i think we need to try to keep the sound down in the hallway because although there are games/activies in the hall, i like to run somethings over with my actors but i couldn't concentrate or hear them, but we could work in a different place in the hall if you guys wanted. Also i suggested to Mr. Moore that we switch around the ABC slots so that the same ppl aren't cleaning up the black box everyday...
ReplyDeleteALSO (sorry) Mr. Moore today was telling me that i need to tell people to move set pieces, and i know it sounds weird, but its something that we need to think about, we all have too much on our minds to really be moving chairs and shiz while trying to direct, i think its going to be really hard for me to be an authority figure because i hate taking charge
colleen i agree with you, but its because we are all over the place during school and they see us around they are still confused at the fact we are in charge, I think that when we get back if the tone is set on the first time and have it so the directors talk to everyone and not just Mr. Moore and Ms. Houston telling them to respect us, but all the directors as one that would set a good tone
ReplyDeleteMafia & the Improve game were really successful!
ReplyDeleteMad props to Tess
And agreed, the hallway WAS really loud today, probably because everyone loved the game so much? Maybe we should also include a focusing exercise if we have another game(ish) day?...Just a suggestion.
thanks everybody for your work this week in the blocking of the play....when we come backfrom spring break we will be running through it alot
ReplyDeleteThanks again to Danielle for agreeing to help me with costumes once she's done with this directing gig (though if you flake I'll completely understand). I think I'm going to try to conquer writing my music next, as Joe told me he'd like to learn it now, rather than later.
ReplyDeleteYes colleen. I was trying to do a quick informal read thru with Ali and I literally couldn't hear her and I could not have gotten closer into her personal space! Sort of comical...but seriously. Also, props on the games. It was just what we needed. If we ever have future game days (which I hope we can but we probably won't have time for) we should look into "trust walking" and a massive, outside maybe, capture the flag game:) just for bonding sake, and keeping the actors happy on off days. I'm excited to use Spring Break for gathering. I'll be working on my video pieces, finalizing music, finding props, and finding/making costumes I hope! I'm nervous for full cast rehearsals since yesterday was pretty rocky. I hope once we get back everyone will be ready and willing to work respectfully! Happy Break!!
ReplyDeletemason, i won't flake, i'm here in the mornings until the APs so no worries.
ReplyDeleteTess: The game was a perfect idea. I think the actors really enjoyed it and it was a great activity for everyone to be involved with.
ReplyDeleteI did not meet with any of my actors today, but hopefully they will all (and by all I mean James, Sasha, and Charlie) be off book by the end of break so practice will begin to run a little more smoothly.
Have a Great Break Everyone!!!!
i'm seeing a common theme here with respect and authority; you'll need to remember you will see both in the short term as you speak with your actors, but in the long term as you model what you ask.
ReplyDeletewhen we return, mr moore and myself will address the urgency, at that point, of staying focused and accomplishing goals as we will be at 3 weeks and counting...
Enjoy your break; anything you can get done then will leave you with more time to concentrate on other areas when you return. also keep in touch with your cast, keep them accountable!
i'm looking forward to seeing what all of you have accomplished so far!
Happy Break to All! I'm proud of your first two weeks...
