Blah-ging
1. "Can we leave?" Yes, you may! We are hoping that you can get the small stuff/ basic things done now, just in case something large comes up later. Think really hard about the things you can get done.

A. Example: Look at your actor's notes and see if they are writing down the blocking and understanding what is going on.

B. Example: Run through your play in the gallery.

2. Those that are in charge of spring play shirts and programs/play bills. See Ms. Hall about them, she will give you lots of helpful advise.

3. If you did not receive a Blackbox schedule please come to me and and get a copy meow.

  1. I think today went well....
Only problem is they are talking a lot.
I don't want to be a push over, yet I don't want to be mean, but I don't know how to get them to be quiet.
Also, no one is writing anything down. What should I do?

  2. They MUST write things down. With ten shows -- it is mandatory for all actors to be writing. Believe me, with Spring Break coming up, they won't remember squat.

You might have to be mean to get them quiet. Be firm, be positive, but raise your voice and be serious. We can talk more strategies in class. Anyone have ideas for Kacie?

  3. I had to leave at like 4:30 today but I did get a chance to run through the script again with Dillon, and might have gotten Tom to pronounce "sine" and "cosine" right, which is a major plus.
I signed up to use the BB on Thursday-is anyone else planning on it?

  4. Kacie,

if its the whole group that is too talkative, then you might have to make a "statement" to the group. "Can all of you stop talking and listen to me for a moment?..." Otherwise if its one or two, you might be better off pulling them aside and speaking to them one on one. "Can I see you for a moment over here please...?" Be firm, but make sure your emphasize the importance of attention and focus. address the issue, don't make it personal. keep your actors accountable, and make sure you treat them all the same.

and I agree with Ms Houston, I can't imagine them not taking notes.

  5. 1 Yes, I forgot to sign up today...but I think I really should try to get use of the blackbox on Thursday! At least for the chance of talking to my actors as a group and preping them for break.
2 I'm nervous for my first blackbox day tomorrow, since I feel like that's my chance to set the tone for mine. I want them to get excited about my show, but there's a lot to get done and I'm not sure where to start really. It might be best to deal with the 6 ensemble members for most of it, since I'll only be working with them on blackbox days and I need them to focus early on in the game.
We'll see!! Right now, I find myself constantly searching for more ways to simplify what I want done. In hopes that rehearsals will run more smoothly. Fingers crossed this goes well.
My only observation for people today is that
1 There was a lot of chaos in the hallway. People refusing to sit still and be quiet (as in the opposite of loud...not silent)

  6. PS--character sheets have proven to be successful for me! It focuses some...and forces them to think about my play for all of five minutes.

  7. Jared could become the next great rap star with the progress we made today. His rhymes are already becoming more fluent, and he is being educated on some of the finer artists in the genre of hip hop. Martin would be proud...

  9. i don't think that the actors understand the whole "hallway" situation, i think that we need to tell them that even though they aren't in the blackbox doesns't meant that they don't have things to do, because even though i had black box, i wasn't done with my actors...

  10. Yes, the hallway is a tad chaotic. I feel like with our play that we can't really do too much without the blackbox because if we are missing one person it turns to a huge mess. Our play depends so much on the entire cast, everyone plays off each other and without that it doesn't really work. So I am not entirely sure how to utilize our hallway time. We worked with Sasha and Kyle in the hall but it was kind of pointless because they couldn't really make it work without being in the movie theater seats and being positioned correctly.
    Suggestions?

  11. today we worked with jared in the hallway on his rapping skills. we also did the sheet for mr. harding. we don't really have a lot of set changes or light changes, its mostly just general light and a few spots at the end. are we having follow spots? our only set are basically three chaire and a table so there really shouldnt be a problem doing set changes in the blackout.
    today was good
